Burger King selling a Windows 7 Whopper in Japan.

Obviously, Burger King and Microsoft don't want many Japanese to live long enough to see Windows 8.

Burger King selling a Windows 7 Whopper in Japan: "

Confirming our belief that Japan is at once among the coolest and craziest places on this planet we all call home is Burger King's exclusive Windows 7 Whopper. Seven stacked beef patties extend your usual Whopper to over five inches in height and the whole thing costs an appropriate ¥777 (or $8.55). It'll be available for one week only -- or seven days, get it? Join us past the break to see the full towering size of this meaty monstrosity.

Update: Andy Yang, our Engadget Chinese editor, has read the smallprint and noted that in fact only the first 30 customers each day will get the Win 7 Whopper at ¥777, with the rest shelling out a cool ¥1,450 ($17.10) for the privilege. Way to break with the number 7 theme, guys.

Happy New Year 2009!

In this, the “Year Before the Year We Make Contact” I’d like to wish all of you the very best. Last year was tough for lots of people, and the worst may not yet be over, but hopefully there will be brighter days ahead!

New Beta version of Windows Live Writer

Microsoft recently released a beta of the new version of their blogging software Windows Live Writer. Dubbed “Wave 3” the software comes as part of Microsoft’s Windows Live suite of tools. Also available are new beta versions of Windows Live Mail (now with more robust calendaring options,)  and Windows Live Photo Gallery. Microsoft is also including hooks into their new cloud initiative called Windows Live Mesh so that users can keep multiple computers and mobile devices synched with information from the cloud.

My main interest though is in Windows Live Writer. The initial release of the software produced an extremely robust and easy to use WYSIWYG blog management tool. I’ve been using Writer to manage this blog for quite some time and from the looks of the new beta version I’m using to script this post on, Microsoft has made some functional improvements to the UI that makes it even easier to get around.

I’ll post more details about my experiences with Live Writer and the other Windows Live tools in the coming days, so stay tuned…

Rest in Peace: Effie Teague (1912 - 2008)

My grandmother passed away Tuesday evening 9/23 at 8:25pm. Aged 96 years, 2 months, 16 days. What a full and wonderful life she had. We all should hope for so much for ourselves. Her life stands as a living proof that hard work is rewarded and that love conquers all.

Thanks so much to all of you for your kind words. My family and I are truly saddened at our loss, but yet we cannot help but celebrate that she is now free of the bonds of this mortal coil; its frailties and pains. And that she stands again with the man she loved now and forever.

My grandmother, Effie Teague.
